Positives For West Ham

In my article after David Sullivan had stated that he was stepping down from his role as co-chairman of West Ham United, I posed the question what would be next for the club.

That conundrum has taken the first step to being resolved today with the news that both Daniel Křetínský and Vanessa Gold will now be oversee day-to-day boardroom duties in Stratford.

After a traumatic few weeks for the club both on and off the pitch following relegation from the Premier League, matters may now look brighter due to a clearer leadership structure now in place to hopefully take the Hammers back to the top-flight at the first attempt.

The Czech billionaire arrived at the club in December 2021, as the then hierarchy looked for further investment and he acquired an initial 27% stake. At the time, the team were doing rather well in the top-flight, as well as being in the latter stages of the UEFA Europa League under manager David Moyes. The Scot welcomed Křetínský’s appointment despite not agreeing with a Technical Director being added to the hierarchy later in his reign.

It has often been speculated that Křetínský would be seen as the successor to Sullivan when he eventually decided to relinquish control of the club.  Křetínský will now be the man to hopefully provide Head-Coach Nuno Espírito Santo with sufficient funds so that he can be left to search for the players that he feels well help the club to achieve their top priority when the summer transfer window officially opened in just two days’ time.

While it is likely that the major transfer business will take place after the current FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, some activity may happen before and, if it does, then this site will have all the latest details.
