Earthy Gets Royals Approval

Throughout this summer transfer window, West Ham United have kept talk about deals for their youngsters under wraps. Well, here’s another one.

It was confirmed late on Wednesday that George Earthy would follow in the recent footsteps of Development Squad teammates Callum Marshall and Freddie Potts in making a permanent move away from Stratford. The 21-year-old has signed for Sky Bet League One outfit Reading.

David Moyes gave the midfielder his first-team debut in the home leg of the UEFA Europa League tie against SC Freiburg in March 2024 and he then went on to make his maiden Premier League appearance against Fulham just days later after being named in the matchday squad.

The youngster picked up a serious injury just minutes after he came on as a substitute in a home defeat to Marco Silva’s Cottagers. However, on his return over a month later, he notched up his only first-team goal in front of the home fans in what was Moyes’ last match as Irons’ boss -a 3-1 victory over then newly-promoted club Luton Town.

The next step for Earthy was to gain valuable first-team experience by spending time on loan at Sky Bet Championship outfit Bristol City over two separate spells. Well, he certainly got minutes at Ashton Gate and helped himself to a fair few goals along the way too!!!

He was back under the stewardship of Nuno Espírito Santo at Rush Green this summer though and the Portuguese included him amongst the substitutes against the Clarets at Turf Moor last weekend. However, that was to be the end of his West Ham career. Royals’ boss Leam Richardson has obviously been an admirer and may include him in the squad for Saturday’s game at AFC Wimbledon. There is likely to be more news concerning transfers before the East Londoners play their first Sky Bet Championship home game against Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon. As soon as the information is available, then this site will provide the details.
