Long-term Striker Issue Could Be Resolved
Nuno Espírito Santo was likely to take a much more measured approach with regards to transfer dealings after taking over from Graham Potter at West Ham United back in September and so far, he has been true to his word.
Yes, deals were completed for youngsters Keiber Lamadrid and Jett Murphy back in June, but it has taken up until the last thirteen days for real strength to be added to the squad. To be fair though, once Joël Veltman, Manor Solomon and Arne Engels came into the club, it has been a busy few days in Stratford with activity concerning both incomings and outgoings.
The first two signings that fellow relegated club Wolverhampton Wanderers made gave the impression that they are serious about a return to the top-flight in May 2027. However, with the calibre of player that the Irons are bringing in, then you would have to say that they are going all out to match them.
It had been rumoured prior to Sunday’s Sky Bet Championship opener at Burnley that the Hammers were pursuing a move for Leeds United striker Joël Piroe. The Portuguese then reiterated the need for more options in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.
The Hammers had been reportedly in ongoing talks with the West Yorkshire club throughout the summer. This move is in no way seen as part of the domino effect that meant that Niclas Füllkrug went back to Germany and joined Werder Bremen on an initial season-long loan on Tuesday. West Ham have accepted Leeds United’s request for an initial loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.
After having a few training sessions under his belt, the new recruit may be included in the squad, together with another debutant, Arne Engels as the team play host to Charlton Athletic in a first London derby of the campaign on Saturday afternoon. Before the Addicks arrive in Stratford though, there are likely to be more developments on the transfer front. As always, supporters will be able to read the latest information here as soon as anything is announced.
