Cup Draw Brings Up Saints Test

The draw for the second-round of the Carabao Cup was made earlier tonight and it’s another Southern Section tie for West Ham United, as they head to St Mary’s to face fellow Sky Bet Championship side Southampton. The match will be played in the week beginning 24 August.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s men beat another South Coast club on Saturday afternoon as Portsmouth were defeated 3-1 in Stratford, despite going ahead. However, the Irons won’t want a repeat of what happened at the same stage last season when they went to the Premier League’s bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers and lost 3-2.

The Saints set up this tie thanks to a 2-0 win over Sky Bet League Two outfit Colchester United just hours after the former Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest boss had seen his side knock out their fierce rivals.

This will be the first of three meetings between the two sides this campaign with the league meetings scheduled for September and December.

One player that the Irons’ Head-Coach may include in his squad for this game is winger Manor Solomon after his transfer from Tottenham Hotspur was confirmed this afternoon. The 27-year-old Israeli has signed an initial three-year contract with the option for a further year.

The man who first arrived in the Premier League with Fulham has become the fourth summer signing for the Hammers’ Head-Coach following the acquisitions of Keiber Lamadrid, Jett Murphy and Joël Veltman.

The signing of Soiomon may not be the last piece of business completed by Espírito Santo in this window. Should more movement occur either in or out of East London, then supporters will be able to read about the latest goings-on as soon as they are confirmed.
