Irons Turn Todibo Move Permanent

The summer transfer window is now open and West Ham United have confirmed today that their loan move for OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo will become permanent on July 1.

Although current Head-Coach Graham Potter has not yet had sufficient time to work with his Head of Recruitment Kyle Macaulay to discuss who they want to bring to the club ahead of the 2025/26 season, Potter has already had his mind made up for him, as the Frenchman will now stay in East London for the foreseeable future.

At the end of the 2022/23 campaign, there was significant change in Stratford in terms of how the club would be structured and the job of bringing in players was given to a technical director. It was decided by the hierarchy that the man best suited for this role would be German Tim Steidten.

It was clear that Steidten and the then manager David Moyes did not see eye to eye and when the Scotsman’s contract came to an end, both David Sullivan and Karen Brady opted to take the club in a different direction, allowing Steidten total control of transfers.

When Spaniard Julen Lopetegui was appointed as Head-Coach just seventeen days short of a year ago, Todibo was one that the pair identified to sign. They negotiated a season-long loan deal. Certain conditions were then written into the contract and it was made public some time ago that the player would leave France for an undisclosed fee including whether the club retained their Premier League status, which they duly did win a fourteenth place finish.

Whilst there are set to be more new faces joining Todibo this summer, two that the club won’t be pursuing are Carlos Soler and Evan Ferguson, who will be returning to Brighton and Hove Albion and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
