Ipswich Town Match Preview
After continuing their unbeaten away record at Brentford last weekend, West Ham United will now look to get off the mark at home with a win against newly-promoted Ipswich Town this afternoon.
Although they had mixed results against the three newcomers last season, the Hammers still managed to pick up fourteen points out of the available eighteen. They will hope to break that record this season starting with a vital three against Kieran McKenna’s men.
Given that the first three home games of the new campaign were against Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea, Julen Lopetegui’s team, together with their ever-loyal home support will expect to get a result here to leave them with momentum going into October’s international break.
Despite not winning any of their first six Premier League encounters, Ipswich have picked up four consecutive draws since August 24 and will be looking to pile on the misery for the East Londoners with a first win of the new campaign here.
If the hosts were to record a first home success since the 3-1 victory over Luton Town back on 11 May however, they would put more distance between them and their opponents in the table, as the visitors are currently a place and a point below them.
Edson Álvarez could return to the starting line-up after serving a one-match ban against the Bees last weekend, while Lopetegui confirmed in his pre-match news conference ahead of this game on Thursday that Niclas Füllkrug will be missing again due to his ongoing injury. Ben Johnson is set to make a swift return to his former club after signing for the Tractor Boys in the summer.
The match is a 3pm kick-off and the referee is Anthony Taylor.
