Further Three Leave Hammers
The summer transfer window is now only open for deals to be done between Premier League and EFL clubs, bringing an end to business in Europe.
On Monday night, West Ham United saw youngsters Josh Cullen and Xande Silva, as well as Jack Wilshire all leave the club.
24-year-old Cullen made his debut for his boyhood club in their UEFA Europa League first qualifying round match against Andorraan outfit FC Lusitanos in 2015, before making a first league appearance as a substitute against Liverpool at Anfield.
He then had a series of loan spells where he then spent time with Bradford City and Bolton Wanderers, as well as having two stints at Charlton Athletic.
Now, the midfielder has signed a permanent three-year contract at Belgian side RSC Anderlecht.
The Republic of Ireland international might have played in the Hammers’ last two Carabao Cup ties but he unfortunately was one of three to test positive for Coronavirus, along with teammate Issa Diop and manager David Moyes before the third round encounter at home to Hull City.
It all meant that there was a fitting end to Cullen’s West Ham career as his last appearance for the club came against the Addicks.
There were two other late deals involving the East Londoners, as Xande Silva was then confirmed as a Aris player, having secured a season-long loan move to Greece.
The 23-year-old was mainly used as a member of West Ham’s Development Squad after arriving in Stratford in the summer of 2018. However, the striker did go on to make two first-team appearances and will be looking to gain further experience before a potential return to the East End next season.
The final piece of news that may not have come as a surprise to most of the club’s loyal fan base, was that Wilshire’s contract would be terminated prematurely.
The 28-year-old was also brought to the club in 2018 by Manuel Pellegrini but the midfielder was unfortunate to only feature nineteen times, due to his persistent injury problems.
He also made his final appearance for the team who he supported as a youngster in the 5-1 victory against the Tigers last month.
