Liverpool Match Preview
West Ham United’s win at Anfield in August 2015 came out of nowhere, as they won 3-0. They will be on the lookout for another positive result here this afternoon, as Liverpool have had some surprising results this season.
Following the Hammers’ defeat to Nottingham Forest in January, they then went on a three-match unbeaten run and were2-0 up at Stamford Bridge, then an astonishing Chelsea comeback took place to see them lose 3-2. Since then, they have gone through February unbeaten and will hope that their current momentum remains with them here and they can follow in the footsteps of the teams who have already taken points back home with them this season and in so doing, cause another shock.
If there is a man who knows how to get the better of the Reds, it is Nuno Espírito Santo. Yes, he may have lost the reverse fixture back on November 29 but, when he was in charge of Nottingham Forest last season, the Portuguese not only masterminded a famous win here but he also picked up a point at The City Ground. The ever-loyal fanbase will travel up from the East End in their thousands and they will be hoping that he can steer them to back-to-back top-flight wins on the road.
If that outcome is achieved, then they would finally move out of the relegation zone for the first time since November with Nottingham Forest once again playing tomorrow.
Just like at the end of January, going into February the East Londoners had consecutive away games and after today’s game on Merseyside, Espírito Santo’s side face a midweek trip to Craven Cottage, as they come up against Fulham.
The visitors have had an extra day’s preparation going into this game but it really depends what form their opponents are in as to whether that counts for anything.
There was no definitive update from the West Ham Head-Coach as to who would play against the reigning Premier League champions, meaning he could field the same team that picked up a point in the goalless draw against the Cherries a week ago.
The match is a 3pm kick-off and the referee is Tim Robinson.
