Little Business Done For Hammers On Deadline Day
Similar to a year ago when then West Ham United Head-Coach Graham Potter acquired striker Evan Ferguson as his only senior signing of the January transfer window, with the Irishman joining on loan from Potter’s former club Brighton and Hove Albion, it was a very quiet day for Nuno Espírito Santo, as only one player came through the arrivals door in Stratford whilst one went in the other direction.
Defender Axel Disasi had been linked with a move across London from Chelsea throughout the month and late on Monday night, he finally completed a straight loan move for the rest of the current campaign.
This will be Disasi’s second loan move since joining Chelsea in the summer of 2023 having fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge under the management of Mauricio Pochettino. Since then, he had also found opportunities under Enzo Maresca hard to come by. Now, the player hopes to the be a regular in Espírito Santo’s starting line-up.
He will undoubtedly feature in the club’s next three games, given the fact that Jean-Clair Todibo has to serve a three-match suspension for the straight red card he received in the closing stages of Saturday’s 3-2 reverse at Disasi’s parent club.
Disasi becomes Espírito Santo’s fifth signing of the window, and he will hope to help the Irons beat the drop come the end of May.
Minutes before the 7pm deadline, it had been thought that the 27-year-old Frenchman’s move to East London may not be finalised, due to his wage demands. However, it seems that much later on, that issue had been resolved and the deal was finally confirmed.
In other news, it was a day that saw one in and one out at the club, as Development Squad player Emeka Adiele has followed in the footsteps of both Luis Guilherme and Elisha Sowunmi in leaving Stratford. Adiele has signed a permanent deal with Dutch club FC Utrecht.
