Brighton and Hove Albion Match Preview
Twenty three days ago, West Ham United picked up a point on the road at Brighton and Hove Albion’s American Express Stadium. Following their defeat in a crucial home game against Fulham on Saturday, the Hammers now host the Seagulls needing to clinch three points to help them start to climb the Premier League table.
As they look to bounce back from the 1-0 defeat to Fulham in Saturday’s crucial home game, one plus for Nuno Espírito Santo here is the fact that since Fabian Hürzeler has been in charge in Sussex, he has never yet won a match in December. The home fans are hoping that their team can extend that record and cement their first points since the 1-1 draw between the two teams earlier this month.
The Stratford faithful were hopeful that 2025 would have brought more positives than the previous one but, it has not turned out that way. The team are now under their second Head-Coach of the current campaign, and a third this year, so they will be looking to go into 2026 off the back of some good news with their first ever top-flight home win against tonight’s opponents.
The last time that the Irons beat Brighton in a home league match was when both teams were in the npower Championship back at Upton Park in April 2012. That day the home side won 6-0 when Sam Allardyce was at the helm. Given that fact, you would have to say that three points are well overdue for the home side tonight!!!
Like West Ham, Hürzeler’s side go into this game off the back of defeat on Saturday, as they were on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat by Arsenal at The Emirates Stadium. However, neither team has an advantage in terms of preparation time ahead of this clash in East London.
Konstantinos Mavropanos, Tomáš Souček and Callum Wilson could all be restored to the starting line-up here if Espírito Santo decides to make any changes.
The match kicks off at the unusual time of 7:30pm and live coverage will be screened by Sky Sports from 6:30pm. The referee is Michael Salisbury.
