Liverpool Match Preview
West Ham United are finally out of the relegation zone for the first time this season and although they host Arne Slot’s Liverpool this afternoon, they will fancy their chances of staying away from danger.
Slot’s side have been defeated more times in the current Premier League campaign than they were in the whole of 2024/25 when they raced to the title.
Crystal Palace, Brentford and Nottingham Forest have all put dents in the Reds’ latest bid to retain their trophy and now the Hammers will be hoping to add their name to that list, as they look to end November unbeaten.
Last season, Nuno Espírito Santo became the first manager to inflict pain on Slot when the Portuguese was in charge at Nottingham Forest, as he led his former side to a 1-0 triumph. He will no doubt be aiming to do the same again here which will be a major achievement, given that between them, both Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter only managed four home victories during their time in the hotseat.
It’s not just on the domestic front where Liverpool have struggled this season. They have also suffered defeats to Turkish outfit Galatasaray and Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League.
West Ham face a busy period with three games in a week so they will be looking to start on a high today!!!
The home side have had a full week to prepare since letting a two-goal advantage slip to draw at AFC Bournemouth eight days ago, whereas the visitors fell to consecutive defeats in midweek.
Lucas Paquetá is set to come straight back into the side after missing the trip to Dorset through suspension, while Crysencio Summerville will be assessed to see if he has shaken off a knock that kept him out of the encounter with the Cherries.
Konstantinos Mavropanos may also feature for the first time since being taken off against Brentford on October 20, due to a leg injury.
Youngster Lewis Orford could be named in the matchday squad after cutting a season-long loan spell at Sky Bet League One side Stevenage short and featuring in the Development Squad’s 3-0 success over Truro City in the National League Cup five days earlier. Luis Guilherme is set to be back amongst the substitutes.
Callum Wilson scored both goals in last weekend’s encounter and he will be keen to start a fourth consecutive match and keep fellow striker Niclas Füllkrug on the bench.
The match kicks off at the unusual time of 2:05pm with live coverage being screened by Sky Sports from 1pm. The referee is Darren England.
