Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Preview
In their last two Carabao Cup campaigns, West Ham United have been knocked out by Liverpool. Well, they face another Premier League side tonight as they start their latest quest to reach Wembley in March with a trip to Molineux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
These two teams met three times last season and they will do so again this time around with meetings to come in both January and April.
Tonight’s match will provide some relief for both clubs as they are yet to get off the mark and occupy the bottom two places in the table. However, something will have to give here, as should this encounter end level after ninety minutes, a penalty shoot-out will then take place to decide who progresses to the fourth-round stage.
Both sets of supporters will be hoping that this match provides them, and their club with the boost needed in order to kickstart their respective 2025/26 seasons and, given West Ham’s previous record against Vitor Pereira’s men in domestic cup competitions, the travelling support just might be celebrating come the end of the contest.
Neither team is on form going into this fixture after failing to pick up a single league point to date, following recent defeats to both AFC Bournemouth and Chelsea respectively. Having said that though, Graham Potter’s team may benefit from one extra day’s preparation, having faced Enzo Maresca’s men on Friday night.
The Hammers’ Head-Coach is likely to make wholesale changes for this game, meaning summer signings Kyle Walker-Peters and Callum Wilson could make their first starts for the club.
Alphonse Areola is likely to start in goal, while Freddie Potts, Oliver Scarles, George Earthy, Callum Marshall, Guido Rodríguez, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Andrew Irving could all come into the starting line-up. Max Kilman is set to retain his place and feature for the Irons against his former club, while Craig Dawson may be involved for the home side.
The match kicks off at the unusual time of 7:30pm and like Friday’s London derby, coverage will again be screened by Sky Sports with build-up beginning at 7:25pm. The referee is Sam Barrott.
