Spurs Seal Kudus transfer
It seems that during every transfer window there is a move that comes out of the blue and this summer is no different. Even before the latest window opened on June 1, there had been rumours about the future of Mohammed Kudus at West Ham United.
From the very early days after the Hammers had brought an end to an underwhelming 2024/25 season in the Premier League with a 3-1 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road, in which the Ghanaian scored, it seemed inevitable that the winger, whose move to East London was initiated by former Technical Director Tim Steidten in the summer of 2023, would be leaving Stratford with Chelsea believed to be the front runners for his signature.
However, the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge were clearly focused on other targets and a bid never materialised.
You may have thought that was the end of the matter, particularly as West Ham returned for pre-season training on Monday and the winger was pictured and filmed sporting the club’s new training range. Just days later, there would be another twist to the story. Yes, Spurs then showed their hand.
It appears that new Head-Coach Thomas Frank has been an admirer of the player for some time so the North London side moved quickly to approach West Ham about the availability of the former Ajax player.
Of course, both senior figures at West Ham, along with Head-Coach Graham Potter, would have wanted to fend off the interest from their fierce rivals but a factor in Kudus’s decision to make the move across London was the lure of UEFA Champions League football at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Kudus tasted European action whilst with the Irons but he obviously wanted to play at a higher level.
Kudus becomes the sixth major outgoing at the club already this summer after Łukasz Fabiański, Vladimír Coufal, Aaron Cresswell, Danny Ings and Kurt Zouma all left on June 30.
This sale will go some way to providing Potter with significant funds to strengthen his squad, as he is yet to make a major signing of his own since coming to the club in early January. He has already brought two youngsters in but, as soon as he adds to the first-team squad, then as always, this site will provide its readers with all the latest details.
