Potts Makes Move Abroad

In a pre-season interview with West Ham United’s in-house media after the match against then fellow Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers back in July 2024, midfielder Freddie Potts stated that he would like to stay with the Hammers and fight for his place in the hope that one day, he would make the step up to the first-team. In another, following the recent draw against Enterprise National League outfit Southend United two years on, the 22-year-old spoke about how he’d love to help get the club back to the top-flight at the first attempt.

Similar to Callum Marshall’s transfer to Sky Bet League One side Luton Town on Friday, little was known about this move until news emerged that Potts was given the go-ahead to make his way to Belgium for a medical and to then complete a move to Club Brugge KV for an undisclosed fee.

Current Irons’ Head-Coach Nuno Espírito Santo included Potts in the matchday squad for his first game in charge at Everton back on 29 September and brought him on in the second-half, as he replaced Soungoutou Magassa and from that moment on, the Portuguese decided that Potts was ready to make the step up to the top-flight, following impressive loan spells at both Wycombe Wanderers and Portsmouth.

A sustained run of gametime followed, before he received a straight red card in the Emirates FA Cup fourth-round tie against Sky Bet League One side Burton Albion back on 14 February, despite match referee Lewis Smith initially booking the man who had only been introduced to take the place of Keiber Lamadrid on seventy one minutes. Since then, he found it hard to regain his place in the side.

Had the interest not come about this week, Potts may have been in contention for a reunion with some of his former teammates, as John Mousinho’s side make the trip to the East End for a Carabao Cup first-round tie on Saturday afternoon.

Following all the sales that the Irons have made this summer, there may at last be players moving to Stratford if recent reports are to be believed. As soon as anything is confirmed then details will be available here.
