No Managerial Change At West Ham

Before West Ham United even took to the pitch for Sunday’s home match against newly-promoted Leeds United, reports on Sky Sports News suggested that the club’s hierarchy wanted Nuno Espírito Santo to stay on as Head-Coach. However, after being relegated despite winning their final day clash 3-0 at home to Daniel Farke’s men, those aforementioned reports were suddenly cast into major doubt. There is finally some positive news emerging from Stratford.

Following two days of detailed discussions with the club’s hierarchy, it was confirmed in a lengthy statement on the official website earlier today that the man appointed as Graham Potter’s successor back on 27 September will continue in the role next season.

The Portuguese has two years left on his contract but due to relegation, he had the right to walk away if he wished to do so. On the other hand, the club reserved the right to terminate his deal without paying him compensation. However, supporters will be relieved to hear that it is business as usual and he is determined to bring the club back to the top-flight at the first attempt.

Had the current Head-Coach left his post in East London, then names from the past were being linked with taking over. These included Slaven Bilić, Scott Parker and Gary O’Neil.

Espírito Santo’s first job in England was in the second tier and he took charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers for the 2017/18 season. He went on to win the title with an astonishing ninety nine points. The Board have clearly identified that statistic as being key and it was agreed that he would carry on the job he started in East London and help reshape the squad as they bid for automatic promotion next term.

To be fair, the club needs a period of stability, following the ill-fated reins of both Potter and Julen Lopetegui.

It is unclear as to how many players will leave this summer but hopefully, Espírito Santo is able to secure the targets he needs to start the next campaign on a winning note.

The new Championship fixture list will be released on June 26 and as soon as information is available, this site will provide all the latest details, while news regarding transfer dealings will also appear here.
