Wilson Finalises Brentford Switch

Back on March 9, a report on Sky Sports News suggested that West Ham United were ready to offer striker Callum Wilson a one-year extension to his contract. However, matters have moved on since then and it has now been confirmed by the club’s website that he has left Stratford and moved across London to remain in the top-flight and signed for Brentford.

News of this move came late, as there was no mention of Wilson’s departure when the club issued their retained list back on 10 June.

Even though the Hammers beat then newly-promoted club Leeds United back on May 24, it wasn’t enough to keep them in the Premier League and the former Coventry City, AFC Bournemouth and Newcastle United frontman will now spend the next twelve months at The Gtech Community Stadium.

Wilson’s arrival in East London was a shock to many of the ever-loyal fanbase but, the then Head-Coach Graham Potter was in desperate need of a striker, given that when Wilson signed, Potter only had an injury prone and ageing Niclas Füllkrug as a proper option in that position. Former Technical Director Kyle Macaulay was handed the task of delving into the free agent market and identified the 33-year-old as one that could still be useful at the top level.

The player still has an eye for goal though and notched up seven in thirty five appearances across all competitions during his spell in Stratford.

This latest exit means that current boss Nuno Espírito Santo has now overseen the permanent departures of several players already with more expected to follow before the closure of the summer window. With Keiber Lamadrid and Jett Murphy being the only arrivals in East London to date, us fans are keen to see who will join the Venezuelan winger as the Irons get set for a gruelling promotion challenge. News of further deals both in and out of Stratford will appear on this site as soon as they are confirmed.
