Irons Confirm Marshall Departure
West Ham United Head-Coach Nuno Espírito Santo will possibly make more use of his younger players throughout the 2026/27 campaign in the Sky Bet Championship. However, one he will not be able to rely on is 21-year-old Northern Irishman Callum Marshall as he has made the permanent move to Sky Bet League One outfit Luton Town.
Hatters’ boss and former Hammers’ midfielder Jack Wilshire had previously made Gideon Kodua’s loan move permanent after he had succeeded Matt Bloomfield, who was keen to re-sign the defender, following their time together at Wycombe Wanderers.
Now, it appears that Wilshire has raided his former club again and signed Marshall for an undisclosed fee.
Although Marshall was brought to East London during the successful second tenure of David Moyes in 2022, he had to wait patiently for a chance in the first-team.
The Scot gave him his debut in the FA Cup third-round replay against Bristol City back in January 2024 and over two years later, a combination of both Graham Potter and Espírito Santo gave him more first-team minutes. Potter included him in several matchday squads but rarely used him, whereas the Portuguese brought him off the bench in consecutive losses to Brentford and Arsenal last October.
This deal came out of nowhere, as there were no reports of the Hertfordshire club being interested and the Stratford faithful may have thought that the player might finally be given a real chance to show his potential in the coming season, as he featured in the recent pre-season matches against both Sky Bet League One side Stevenage and Scottish Premiership outfit Glasgow Rangers.
At the end of my article after the club had published their retained list, I stated that it could be an interesting summer for them and so far, that is exactly how it has proved. However, there transfer activity has mainly focused on outgoings with youngsters Jett Murphy and Keiber Lamadrid being the only acquisitions to date.
I had been thinking that there would be more action on the incoming front once we have moved into August and it looks like my instincts could well be correct as there is speculation that the squad could be bolstered soon. News on that, as well as any more significant developments will appear here as soon as they are announced.
