New Season Fixture List Details Published

The start to the season for all the EFL is an unusual one for 2026/27 as clubs begin their Carabao Cup campaign and West Ham United are involved at this stage for the first time since the 2011/12 season with them facing tie against fellow Sky Bet Championship outfit Portsmouth. A confirmed date and time for the fixture is yet to be published but all ties will take place between 7-9 August.

The league opener sees Nuno Espírito Santo’s side face the only newly-promoted club that they did the double over last term, as they travel to Turf Moor for to face Burnley in a match that has already been selected for live coverage on Sky Sports. It will take place on Sunday 16 August with kick-off at 4pm.

A first London derby is to be staged in Stratford just six days later, as Charlton Athletic make the journey to the East End, before a trip to Watford wraps up the first month.

After the trip to Vicarage Road, it’s the first of two home games to begin September with Espírito Santo’s team to face his old club Wolverhampton Wanderers on 1 September, before Derby County make the same journey four days later.

There is another midweek fixture programme where the Irons travel to newly-promoted Bolton Wanderers but the date for this fixture may be changed due to whether or not they progress in the Carabao Cup. The match in Lancashire is initially set for Tuesday 8 September however, it may be rescheduled for the following week.

Following the encounter with the Trotters, Wrexham visit Stratford before September ends with the game that matters to all of a West Ham persuasion take place as they face the game with an even more fierce rivalry than the one against Tottenham Hotspur brings an end to the month. Yes, they travel to The New Den and face Millwall.

The first international break of the season then takes centre stage. October is another busy month, starting at home to Queens Park Rangers, before back-to-back away games at newly-promoted Lincoln City and Swansea City.

A home game with Southampton follows, before they will be hoping to avoid a scare as the fixture computer has handed them a Halloween home encounter with West Bromwich Albion.

Nineteen days after facing Swansea City, the East Londoners return to Wales for a midweek encounter with newly-promoted Cardiff City then a trip to Blackburn Rovers follows just three days later. There is then a fortnight’s break before another three-game week begins with a home game against Preston North End. The Irons are then on the road as they make the first of two trips in the season to the South Coast by going to Fratton Park and take on Portsmouth. Yet another busy month then concludes with a visit from Stoke City.

Similar to the Premier League, December is also a busy time for Championship clubs, with five matches in just twenty four days, as the month commences with a trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United before two home encounters in the space of four days against both Middlesbrough and Bristol City.

The festive fixtures start on 19 December with a trip to St Andrews to take on Birmingham City. Boxing Day sees the first meeting of the season between the Hammers and Norwich City before they will hope to end what has been a promising year so far with their second visit to Hampshire of the campaign and a second meeting in just over a month with Southampton.

West Ham have not been involved in a fixture on New Year’s Day since coming away with a 3-2 win from Crystal Palace in 2022. Well, 2027 starts with the second meeting in a matter of twenty days with Bristol City.

The second weekend of the year is dedicated to the third-round of the Emirates FA Cup, meaning that the Sky Bet Championship takes another break and is back on 16 January when Swansea City make the long journey to Stratford, before the team make the trip to The Hawthorns to take on West Bromwich Albion

A 46-game season means that teams will play eight rounds of midweek fixtures and another of these is in the schedule for 27 January, when the East Londoners play host to Cardiff City, before Blackburn Rovers follow the Bluebirds in being the next team to visit the East End the following Saturday.

Back-to-back away games are at the start of February for Espírito Santo’s men, as the trip to Preston North End is swiftly followed by the journey to Wrexham. Then the home faithful get to see their team in action twice in just four days as newly-promoted Lincoln City are first up, before the hotly anticipated fixture at home to Millwall. Following the encounter against the Lions, it’s a second consecutive derby, as the Irons head west for an encounter with Queens Park Rangers.

After facing both Millwall and Queens Park Rangers at the end of February, March also starts with a London derby as the Hammers visit The Valley to face Charlton Athletic. There are midweek and weekend matches for the rest of the month with Burnley, Stoke City, Sheffield United and Norwich City all due to come up against Espírito Santo’s men.

It is once again two home encounters to start final full month of the campaign with both Birmingham City and Bolton Wanderers coming down to the East End within three days of each other, before a trip to Derby County rounds off the week.

After the trip to Pride Park there is a full week to prepare before it is yet another three-game week with Watford arriving in Stratford, before a double away assignment at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Middlesbrough. The Irons will hope to have secured promotion back to the top-flight before they end the season just as they started at home to Portsmouth. This game is set for a 12:30pm kick-off.
