Robinson Secures First Loan Move

The January transfer window may have slammed shut at 11pm yesterday but West Ham United confirmed earlier today that Junior Robinson is the latest Development Squad player to spend time away from Stratford with the 20-year-old defender moving to Vanarama National League side Sutton United until the end of the current campaign.

Steve Morrison has obviously been tracking the player’s progress since Robinson scored against his new side when Mark Robson’s team beat them 2-0 at The VBS Community Stadium back on 17 December.

In the summer transfer window, the Hammers hierarchy were keen for a number of their young players to gain valuable first-team experience with both lower and non-league clubs. Although new Irons’ Head-Coach Graham Potter has been monitoring the progress of the academy in East London, as well as giving Oliver Scarles, Lewis Orford and Kaelan Casey their chance in the first-team, he is of the belief that some need to keep continuing their development.

Krisztián Hegyi and Michael Forbes are now on loan deals with different clubs than when they were originally sent out in July and August, Freddie Potts, George Earthy, Patrick Kelly, Callum Marshall and Gideon Kodua all remain at the club where they started the season.

Robinson is the third player to go out on loan to a Vanarama National League club this week and he follows the same path as fellow teammates Regan Clayton and Bradley Dolaghan. It will be interesting to watch his progression and then learn how Potter integrates him into the squad.
