Cornet Makes Genoa Loan Switch
The January transfer window has been open for just under two weeks now and given the recent upheaval at West Ham United, not much has been happening as far as player movement is concerned.
However, it was revealed on Monday evening that after the departure of goalkeeper Krisztián Hegyi to Debreceni VSC back on 11 January, the club have sanctioned a second loan deal for Maxwel Cornet.
The winger was among a number of big-name departures from Stratford when the summer transfer window closed, along with James Ward-Prowse and Nayef Aguerd, as the Ivorian secured a move to newly-promoted Southampton.
Just like his time at the Hammers, Cornet again struggled for game time at St Mary’s and speculation was rife on January 6 that another move was on the cards for the former Burnley player and he will now head to Italy and spend the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign at Serie A outfit Genoa.
There is no permanent move in the deal that sees Cornet join Patrick Vieira’s side so we will see how he progresses and what then materialises in the summer.
With just under a fortnight left for deals to be done, there is sure to be more activity both in and out of East London. As always, if and when news is available, this site will provide the latest.
