West Ham Release Ogbonna And Anang
The 2023/24 Premier League season may have only come to an end seventeen days ago but earlier today, West Ham United confirmed that Angelo Ogbonna, along with young goalkeeper Joseph Anang are among a small group of players that will leave the club when their current contracts expire on June 30.
The Italian defender is currently the second senior player to be ending his time in Stratford this summer after Thilo Kehrer made his loan move to AS Monaco permanent on May 17. There are bound to be more players departing East London in the months ahead, as the summer transfer window will open for business in just nine days time.
Julen Lopetegui signed a initial two-year contract with the option for a further year to become the club’s new Head-Coach on May 23 after being out of work since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers just three days before the start of the 2023/24 campaign. He will have to do without the services of the former Juventus man after nine years, although there was some good news for the Spaniard this morning as it was announced that Aaron Cresswell had signed a one-year extension to his current deal.
Shortly after the deal for the former Ipswich Town and Tranmere Rovers defender had been made public, the news that youngsters Jacob Knightbridge, Keenan Appiah-Forson, Dan Chesters, Liam Jones, Jerry Umolu, Seb Boothe and Blaise Uwandji have been released, while Ben Johnson and Divin Mubama will consider new contracts offers.
