Liverpool Match Preview
West Ham United have already taken points from Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Arsenal this season and the Hammers will be planning for the same outcome against Jürgen Klopp’s men when Liverpool visit Stratford tonight.
The Irons are now in fourteenth place in the Premier League after notching up only their third success on the road in 2022/23 against newly-promoted AFC Bournemouth three days ago and they will want to follow that up by taking advantage of Liverpool’s inconsistent run of away form.
Having said that, the Reds did achieve a 6-1 victory at Leeds United the last time they were on the road back on April 17.
The visitors had previously enjoyed an unblemished record here. That was until last season, when the East Londoners won 3-2 back in November 2021. Those of a West Ham persuasion would definitely take a repeat performance, as it would edge them closer to safety.
Although the Reds have had one extra day’s preparation ahead of this match and will possibly be the fresher of the two teams, the home side will be mindful of their stuttering showing against newly-promoted Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Having said that, they did come out on the right side of a 3-2 home win.
With another game on the horizon at Crystal Palace on Saturday, David Moyes may decide to make a number of changes for this encounter. If he does, then Angelo Ogbonna, Thilo Kehrer, Pablo Fornals, Flynn Downes, Maxwel Cornet and Danny Ings are all in contention. Michail Antonio likely to retain his place for a third straight top-flight game.
Tonight’s match is a 7:45pm kick-off and live coverage is being screened by BT Sport from 7:15pm. The referee is Christopher Kavanagh.
