Downes Swans into Stratford

West Ham United have tonight confirmed the signing of midfielder Flynn Downes from Swansea City for a fee believed to be £12m on a five-year contract with the option to extend the deal for a further twelve months.

The versatile player becomes David Moyes’ fourth signing this summer, following the arrivals of defender Nayef Aguerd and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, as well as youngster Patrick Kelly with the Scotsman looking to further bolster his squad ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The 23-year-old, who also had spells at both Ipswich Town and Luton Town during his short career, is a lifelong Hammers fan and will hope to stake a claim for a regular place as the East Londoners embark on what promises to be another exciting campaign.

Moyes has often had success with players he has signed from the Sky Bet Championship and will hope that Downes is another that makes the successful transition to the top-flight.

There are likely to be more movements in and out of East London before the window closes at the end of August. As soon as any information is available, this site will have all the latest.
