Hammers Turn Areola’s Loan Permanent

Following the news that Ryan Fredericks and David Martin will be the latest senior names to be leaving West Ham United this month, along with a number of Development Squad players, manager David Moyes has already been busy when it comes to incoming transfers.

After confirming the signing of defender Nayef Aguerd last Monday, it was announced earlier that the Hammers have taken up the option to bring Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola to Stratford on a permanent deal, with the Frenchman signing an initial five-year contract with the option for a further twelve months.

Areola featured in all of the club’s Cup games last season as they performed impressively in both the Carabao Cup and UEFA Europa League last season but were unfortunately knocked out of the FA Cup by fellow Premier League side Southampton in the fifth round.

It remains to be seen whether Areola will move ahead of Łukasz Fabiański in the pecking order but will certainly be hoping for more opportunities in the upcoming campaign.

With the Irons hoping to complete more deals before the start of the season on August 7, this site will provide all the details as soon as any moves both in and out of Stratford are concluded.
