Burnley Match Preview

David Moyes picked up his first win over Burnley as West Ham United manager when the two teams met in Stratford on 16 January when the Hammers came out on top, as they won 1-0.

Tonight’s visitors go into the encounter at Turf Moor looking to start May on a positive note after ending April with back-to-back defeats.

The Irons currently occupy sixth place in the Premier League table but they will climb back into fifth with a win against the Clarets.

Although the East Londoners head into this game having had one extra day than their opponents to prepare, Sean Dyche’s side do have momentum behind them, as they came away from Molineux last Sunday with a 4-0 victory.

Moyes’ men will be hoping to clinch their sixth double of the campaign with their first win here since the final day of the 2016/17 season and in so doing, trying to banish the memories of the 3-0 defeat the last time they were here back in November 2019 when they were under the stewardship of Manuel Pellegrini.

Fabián Balbuena had his straight red card from the Chelsea game overturned after a successful appeal on Tuesday. However, the Paraguayan is likely to be back on the bench as Craig Dawson is set to return from his own suspension after being sent off in the 3-2 defeat by Newcastle United on 17 April.

Ryan Fredericks may also retain his place in the starting line-up.

Tonight’s match is an 8:15pm kick-off with live coverage being screened by Sky Sports from 8pm. The referee is Anthony Taylor.
